Shaman in WoD

Here, I’ll keep an updated list of all the known changes to Shaman and that affect Shaman leading up to the release of the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

I will not be including most changes to spell coefficients or mana costs, as those are not typically playstyle-changing, and most players don’t really have to worry too much about them.  If it’s very significant, I’ll include it.

Underlined latest changes.

Keep in mind that much of this is subject to change before Warlords release, especially anything that has not yet been added to the official patch notes.

Ability Removals

  • Ancestral Awakening has been removed.
  • Feral Spirit no longer has the Spirit Bite ability.
  • Chain Heal is Restoration only.
  • Weapon imbues have been removed.  Windfury and Flametongue now provide their effects for Enhancement passively.
  • Greater Healing Wave has been renamed to Healing Wave.
  • Earth Shock is now available only to Elemental Shaman.
  • Mana Tide Totem has been removed.
  • Spiritwalker’s Grace is no longer available to Enhancement.
  • Rolling Thunder and Primal Wisdom passives have been removed.  DPS mana regen has been adjusted to compensate.
  • Healing Tide Totem is now available only to Restoration Shaman.
  • Healing Wave has been removed.
  • Lava Burst now replaces Primal Strike for Elemental and Restoration Shaman.
  • Magma Totem is now available only to Enhancement Shaman.
  • Rockbiter Weapon has been removed.
  • Static Shock has been removed.
  • Stormlash Totem has been removed.
  • Searing Flames has been removed. Lava Lash damage has been buffed to compensate.
  • Water Shield is now available only to Restoration Shaman and replaces Lightning Shield.

PvP changes

  • Ancestral Swiftness can no longer turn Hex into an instant-cast spell.
  • Earthgrab Totem now shares Diminishing Returns with all other root effects.
  • Maelstrom Weapon can no longer reduce the cast time of Hex.
  • Bug Fix: Glyph of Shamanistic Rage should no longer cause Shamanistic Rage to incorrectly dispel Unstable Affliction or Vampiric Touch that has been modified by the PvP 4-piece set bonus.

Ability Changes

  • Riptide’s healing has been adjusted, the initial heal is much stronger, and the periodic portion is a bit weaker.
  • Searing and Magma Totem now scale with Haste.
  • Elemental Blast now provides Lightning Shield charges for Elemental.
  • Tremor Totem can no longer be used while feared, charmed or asleep.
  • Primal Earth Elemental’s Pulverize ability no longer deals damage.
  • Frost Shock no longer generates extra threat, and is a part of the  Enhancement rotation, in Earth Shock’s place.
  • Unleash Flame no longer deals direct damage, but now increases the damage of the Shaman’s next Fire spell by 40% (up from 30%).
  • Unleash Wind no longer deals direct damage, but now increases attack speed by 60% (up from 50%).
  • Unleash Elements has been split into Unleash Life for Restoration, Unleash Flame for Elemental, and Unleash Elements for Enhancement providing their current Unleash effects without need for imbues.
  • Lightning Bolt is no longer castable while moving by default. Effects like Spiritwalker’s Grace can still make the spell castable while moving.
  • Shamanism no longer reduces the cast time of Chain Lightning, but instead now increases the damage of Chain Lightning by 100% (up from 70%).
  • Wind Shear no longer affects threat.
  • Windfury Weapon no longer has a 3-second internal cooldown.
  • Chain Heal now heals each chain target for 15% less than the previous target.
  • Unleash Life no longer increases the healing from Healing Rain, but does twice as much healing.
  • Healing Stream Totem’s mana cost has been reduced to 10% of base mana (down from 23.5%), and its healing has been reduced by 50%.
  • Glyph of Totemic Recall now only increases the mana returned from recalling your totems by 25% (down from 75%).
  • Mana Tide Totem now increases the Spirit of allies by 50% (down from 200% of the Shaman’s Spirit). It remains unchanged (200%) for the Shaman activating the totem, and it still ignores temporary Spirit buffs.
  • Conductivity is no longer triggered by damaging spells for Restoration Shaman, or by healing spells for non-Restoration Shaman, and caps at 30 seconds instead of 40.
  • Ancestral Spirit now cost 4% of base mana (down from 90%).
  • Critical Strikes passive has been added for Enhancement.  This increases your chance to critically hit by 10%.  This is to compensate for Agility no longer providing Crit chance.
  • Enhancement’s version of Ascendance now causes affected attacks to do Physical damage that ignores armor instead of Nature damage.  No longer scales with Mastery.
  • Feral Spirit damage is much higher.
  • Multiple Earth Shields can now be on the same target.
  • Spirit Walk no longer triggers a global cooldown.
  • Tidal Waves increases Healing Wave haste by 20% instead of 30%.
  • Flurry now reduces the cooldown and global cooldown of Lava Lash, Stormstrike, Shocks, Unleash Elements and Fire Nova.
  • Fulmination now causes Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Multistrikes to always generate a Lightning Shield charge.
  • Elemental has a new Mastery.  Molten Earth: Dealing damage causes the earth to strike your most recently attacked target for 6 seconds.

Hit and Expertise Changes

  • Hit and Expertise have been removed as stats.  You will be hit and expertise capped for all active attacks baseline.  Passive effects that affected hit no longer exist.

Buff Changes

  • Elemental Oath and Unleashed Rage now provide 5% haste, instead of 5% spell haste and 10% attack speed respectively.

 Enhancement leveling perks:

  • Improved Reincarnation – Increases health after using Reincarnation by 50%
  • Empowered Lava Lash – Increases the number of targets Flame Shock is spread to by 2
  • Improved Flame Shock – Your Flame Shock ticks have a 15% chance to reset the cooldown of Lava Lash
  • Improved Maelstrom Weapon – Your spells deal 20% additional damage per stack of Maelstrom Weapon
  • Improved Unleash – Unleash Elements now increases your movement speed by 30% for 4 sec.

Elemental leveling perks:

  • Improved Reincarnation – Increases health after using Reincarnation by 50%
  • Improved Chain Lightning – Your Chain Lightning and Lava Beam increases the damage of your next Earthquake by 40% per target hit by Chain Lightning or Lava Beam
  • Improved Lightning Shield – You can gain 5 additional Lightning Shield charges, and Lava Burst and its multistrikes now triggers Rolling Thunder
  • Improved Frost Shock – Frost Shock no longer shares a cooldown with other Shocks.
  • Improved Unleash – Unleash Flame now increases your movement speed by 30% for 4 sec.

Restoration leveling perks:

  • Improved Reincarnation – Increases health after using Reincarnation by 50%
  • Improved Riptide – Reduces the cooldown of Riptide by 1 sec.
  • Improved Chain Heal – Increases the healing done to the initial target of Chain Heal by 50%
  • Improved Healing Rain – Increases healing taken by targets in Healing Rain by 10%
  • Improved Unleash – Unleash Life now increases your movement speed by 30% for 4 sec.

Talents

Elemental and Enhancement

  • Level 100: Elemental Fusion – Your Lava Burst and Lava Lash increase the damage of your next Earth Shock or Flame Shock by 50%, stacking up to 2 times.
  • Level 100: Liquid Magma – Empower your current Fire Totem to spew lava at random targets within 40 yards every .5 seconds for 10 seconds, dealing X damage to all targets within 4 yards.
  • Level 100:Storm Elemental Totem – Summon an Air Totem with 6000 health atthe feet ofthe caster, calling forth a Greater Storm Elemental to hurl gusts of wind at the caster’s enemies, and healing nearby allies for 100% of the damage dealt, split evenly.  Lasts 1 min.
    • Storm Elemental has several of its own abilities, and appears to do additional damage as a DPS spec.
    • Soothing Winds, an attack that deals damage and heals allies based on damage done, split evenly.
    • Call Lightning deals damage and empowers the Elemental to do 100% more damage or healing, depending on spec.
    • Eye of the Storm is an aura that increases movement speed of allies near the Storm Elemental by 100% (Primal Elementalist only).
    • Gale Force knocks a target into the air (Primal Elementalist only).

Restoration

  • Level 100:Cloudburst Totem – Summon a Water Totem with 5 health at the feet ofthe caster for 15 seconds that collects power from all healing. When Cloudburst Totem expires, is destroyed, or replaced, the stored power is released, healing all injured allies for a percentage of the power collected, split evenly. 30 sec. cooldown.
    • While this totem is in effect, overhealing is saved and used up with each individual cast until it expires, making it a steady healing buff for its duration.
  • Level 100: High Tide – Your Chain Heal now bounces to up to 3 additional targets with Riptide, and no longer diminishes in power with each bounce.
  • Level 100: Storm Elemental Totem – Summon an Air Totem with 6000 health at the feet of the caster, calling forth a Greater Storm Elemental to hurl gusts of wind at the caster’s enemies, and healing nearby allies for 100% of the damage dealt, split evenly.  Lasts 1 min.  Appears to do additional healing as Restoration.  See DPS section above for additional effects.

Changes to existing talents

  • Echo of the Elements has been redesigned and causes certain abilities to not incur the ability’s cooldown.
    • Enhancement: Lava Lash, Stormstrike, and Fire Nova
    • Elemental: Lava Burst, Frost Shock, Earthquake.
    • Restoration: Riptide, Unleash Life, Purify Spirit.
  • Ancestral Guidance now deals damage or heals for 20% of damage or healing done, down from 40% of damage and 60% of healing.
  • Ancestral Swiftness now grants 5% haste and 5% attack speed.
  • Unleashed Fury: Unleash Wind now provides 5% Multistrike instead of triggering Lightning Shield.
  • Elemental Blast now now has a chance to provide Multistrike in addition to Haste, Mastery or Critical Strike, and always provides Spirit equal to twice the random stat for Restoration.

Glyphs

New glyphs:

  • Glyph of Ephemeral Spirit – Reduces the cooldown and duration of Feral Spirit by 50%.
  • Glyph of Ghostly Speed – Ghost Wolf grants an additional 60% movement speed.  This speed increase has no effect in combat, or in PvP zones, and does not stack with other movement speed boosts.
  • Glyph of Grounding – Reduces the cooldown of Grounding Totem by 3 sec.
  • Glyph of Lava Spread – Increases the radius at which Lava Lash spreads Flame Shock by 8 yards.
  • Glyph of Reactive Shielding – Your Lightning Shield can now trigger once every 1.5 sec.
  • Glyph of Shamanistic Resolve – Shamanistic Rage reduces damage taken by an additional 30%, but the cooldown on Shamanistic Rage is increased by 60 sec.
  • Glyph of Shocks – Increases the range on Earth Shock, Flame Shock, Frost Shock, and Wind Shear by 5 yards.
  • Glyph of Spiritwalker’s Focus – Reduces the cooldown of Spiritwalker’s Grace by 60 sec., but reduces its duration by 7 sec.
  • Glyph of Spiritwalker’s Aegis – When you cast Spiritwalker’s Grace, you become immune to Silence and interrupt effects for 5 sec.
  • Glyph of Frostflame Weapon – When Flametongue Weapon is active, your attacks slow the target by 50% for 3 sec.
  • Glyph of Purify Spirit – Your Purify Spirit has 2 charges, but the cooldown is increased by 4 sec.

Changes:

  • Glyph of Chaining no longer affects Chain Heal’s cooldown.
  • Glyph of Telluric Currents is removed.

  2. Hello… I have a question: “In Pandaria Enhanc priority is Mastery, then haste. In Wod probably enhanc shamans will priority Haste and then Mastery?
